Rome is a city where it is good to eat. But the Italian capital is also home to its lot of tourist catchers who rip off visitors with mediocre pizzas and ice cream without interest. To help you have a pleasant stay, we explored the city to find the best trattoria (traditional Italian restaurants), gelateria (glaciers) and pizzerias of the city. All you have to do is to book a table in a restaurant in Rome and fill your belly. Enjoy your meal.

1. All’Oro

With its 20 Michelin-starred restaurants, Rome is no exception for gastronomy. All’Oro is one of our favorite restaurants in Rome: you can sample many traditional Roman dishes (ravioli with duck stew, wild salmon, tiramisu) prepared by great Italian chefs in a resolutely modern setting – furniture is Entirely white.

2. Carapina

The famous Florentine sign of Simon Bonini opened a branch in Rome in 2014. This gelateria is considered one of the best in the city. You will be able to taste many unusual flavors such as white wine ice cream, Pecorino Romano ice cream (a cheese made from sheep’s milk), but also more classic flavors such as pistachio ice cream, Strawberry or dark chocolate.

3. Antica Birreria Peroni

Existing for more than 100 years, Antica Birreria Peroni is the ideal place to spend a good time. Join the crowd and drink a few pints of Peroni or Nastro Azzurro pressure or eat hearty pasta dishes and meats. This restaurant in Rome is open all afternoon, unlike most other restaurants that close shop between lunch and evening service. If you are hungry in the middle of the day and you do not know where to eat in Rome, the answer is here.

4. Da Francesco

There is often a queue in front of Da Francesco, one of the best restaurants in Rome, but it’s worth it. This traditional pizzeria-trattoria is not very big, but the atmosphere is friendly. Order a thin pasta pizza or a pasta dish and admire the hustle and bustle of the establishment, between the incessant ballet of customers coming and going and the waiters who sneak elegantly between the tables.

5. Antico Arco

This contemporary and cozy Italian restaurant is located on a hill overlooking the Trastevere area. You can enjoy a risotto at the Castelmagno (a traditional cheese) accompanied by a sauce in the Nebbiolo (a black wine from Piedmont): a real treat. For dessert, taste the mythical soft soufflé with chocolate. This restaurant in Trastevere in Rome is casual, and offers more vegetarian dishes than most other restaurants in the city.

6. Del Frate

Want to eat in the shade of St. Peter’s Basilica? If you have spent the day visiting the museums of the Vatican and you are fed up, head to the restaurant Del Frate. Enjoy the excellent wines on the map of this restaurant in Rome and you can also taste gourmet dishes and delicious dishes of the day.

7. Matricianella

Typical Roman dishes are served on tables covered with a plaid tablecloth. Order spaghetti all’amatriciana (one of the best spaghetti dishes we have ever eaten in our life) as an entrée. Then take a saltimbocca as a dish: this dish consists of a veal cutlet surrounded by a slice of prosciutto crudo (raw ham) and a sage leaf. A true delight. Accompany your meal with one of the 500 wines on the map of one of Rome’s best restaurants.

8. Fortunato al Pantheon

Where to eat in Rome? Opt for a restaurant that is more traditional and classic. Perhaps you will be seated next to an Italian politician (do not be fooled!) While you eat meatballs, spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams) or fresh fish. When it’s season, this restaurant is one of the best places in town where to taste tagliolini with white truffles.

9. Tre Scalini

Located on the famous Piazza Navona, this cafe – which also serves as a gelateria – is packed with people at all hours of the day. Do not miss to taste Il tartufo, the specialty of the house. This ice cream is made using 13 different varieties of Swiss chocolates!

10. Ditirambo

The weather is not very lenient and you want to eat a hot dish? So go to the Ditirambo. Under the wooden ceiling you can enjoy a cacio e pepe (fresh tonnarelli accompanied by Pecorino Romano and black pepper) or a cheek of beef braised in a cream of pumpkin and licorice. Many wines are offered in accompaniment – most of them are served in half bottles. A restaurant in Rome not to be missed.

11. Ristorante dal Toscano

This traditional Tuscan restaurant serves one of the best meats in town. You will be able to choose the meat you will be eating among the large pieces that are hanging near the entrance to the establishment. We recommend grilled beef. In winter, start your meal with a good bowl of hot soup. In summer, ask for a terrace table in this Rome restaurant.

12. Roma Sparita

The name of this restaurant in Rome literally means “Rome disappears”. Located in Trastevere, this property has a courtyard full of tables where you can eat once your passeggiata (evening walk in Italy) is over. We suggest you celebrate around a cacio e pepe which will be served to you under a deluge of parmigiano reggiano chips (parmesan). The taste of this delicious puts you will remain in the mouth very long after leaving this restaurant of Trastevere.
